Their Story
Bradley Louis Melton was a Specialist in the United States Army. He was assigned to the 73rd Engineer Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based out of Fort Wainwright, Alaska. His service included deployments to the Philippines, the Horn of Africa, and Afghanistan.
On May 16, 2011, Specialist Melton died in Qalat, the capital of Zabul province in southern Afghanistan. According to the Department of Defense, his death was the result of a hostile incident. Specific details of the engagement were not widely released in public reports.
Melton's death occurred during Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led military campaign in Afghanistan that began in October 2001.
