Their Story

Steven Lloyd Dupont was a 20-year-old from Lafayette, Louisiana. He served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army and was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, based in Vilseck, Germany.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, Dupont died on October 24, 2010, in Rangrizan, Afghanistan, from wounds sustained during a hostile incident. His death was reported by several news outlets, including The Washington Post and The Advocate in his home state of Louisiana. The Army posthumously awarded him the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and other service medals.

He is remembered on memorial walls in Louisiana and at Fort Benning, Georgia. His name is inscribed on Panel 2W, Row 111 of the Afghanistan War Memorial at the National Infantry Museum.
