Stephen Franklin Byus was a 39-year-old Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He was assigned to the Navy Operational Support Center in Columbus, Ohio, and was a native of Jackson, Ohio. His service included deployments to Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa.
